If it looks like I'm doing something wrong, please say so, darlin.

I'm putting these here because I'm half afraid that my computer will die and I'll lose all my bookmarks. >.< But here's some useful art and writing related crap that I found on the internet, or found out about on the internet. Maybe other people will find it useful too.

About these categories- they're not perfect. Some stuff fits into more than one category for sure, but I wanted to list each website only once, so I just put them into the category I thought they fit into best. :P

Tutorials and Instruction (Visual Art)

Artist Daily
Website with lots of free and awesome e-books for representational artists, especially painters. Extremely righteous.

Save Loomis!
You may be familiar. Lots of PDF books by Andrew Loomis. For representational artists and illustrators especially.

The Grimace Project
Float your mouse over the face and use the sliders to generate a rough reference for all kinds of facial expressions.

Gesture Drawing Lesson…
Don't be fooled by the 90s look of the site. The lesson goes over cool and need to know concepts such as Line of Action.

Monocular Depth Cues…
Hey, did you know that they're pretty important to creating depth in two-dimensional images?

Explore Drawing and Painting Dot Com www.explore-drawing-and-painti…
Tutorials in drawing, painting, composition and many fine-art mediums.

Tutorials and Instruction (Writing)

How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method…
For when you can't stay organized while writing your epic novel; designed to increase the quality of your drafts while decreasing the number of them that you actually have to write.

Movement and Tension in Creative Writing…
Tension in writing is very important, and something you should Google/read up on in general. This article gives a good introduction.

How to Finish A Novel…
Exactly what it says on the tin.

Finding an Ending for a Story…
This is exactly what it says on the tin as well.

Turkey City Lexicon…
"This manual is intended to focus on the special needs of the science fiction workshop. Having an accurate and descriptive critical term for a common SF problem makes it easier to recognize and discuss. This guide is intended to save workshop participants from having to 'reinvent the wheel' every session."---Turkey City Lexicon

The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White (Book)
This book will educate your face on basic grammatical and style conventions.

Story by Robert McKee (book)
Written "for" screenwriters, but excellent for anyone who intends to tell stories. Goes over how to tell a story with tension and depth.

Making Comics and Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud (books)
Exactly what it says on the tin. The books go over the concepts of plot, pacing, paneling, character design and so much more.

Websites About Art
Includes blogs and stuff to look at!

This is cooool! This illustration and animation blog links to artists, tutorials, and all kinds of generally awesome stuff. There's an entry that allows you to download a PDF chapter of the book Drawn to Life… ,  another one that gives you the style notes on how to draw Finn and Jake… . It's soooo coool.

Beautiful, clever and funny design, photography and illustration images posted from around the tubes.

Living Lines Library
Site that contains the process work for many major animated motion pictures. Includes a variety of works from the concept art for Miyazaki's Grave of the Firefiles to the character model sheets for Cats Don't Dance.

Behance Network
An art networking site for professionals. Cool images uploaded by illustrators, photographers, graphic designers, and so on.

Programs and Other Tools

From the page: The Alchemy drawing canvas has an intentionally reduced level of functionality. No undo, no selecting, and no editing. Interaction focuses instead on the output of a great number of good, bad, strange and beautiful shapes.

We Heart It
Allows you to save links to inspirational images from around the web with the click of a button, so that you don't have to save them to your computer.

Cool Timer…
A cool timer that you can program to go off just once or once every 5 or 10 minutes, and so on. Good to use as a reminder to save your files when you're working digitally, or time yourself while sketching.

Simply Noise
Block out all of the distractions around you with soothing white noise.

An object oriented visual novel creator!

A writing program with formats for comics, novels, storyboard, film and lots of other stuff. Comes in a free or premium version.

And, with that, I'm tired of writing, which results in this list being left incomplete. As an incomplete list, it is highly subject to updates, addenda, blahdee blah.

Anything cool you'd like to add?
  • Listening to: Chara
  • Reading: Robin Hobb
  • Playing: P3 PSP
  • Eating: nothing!
  • Drinking: water
